Objectives
The aims of the Unity Festival are to create opportunities for greater social interaction between the many diverse communities of the Tweed Shire whilst at the same time creating an event that becomes a ‘Must See’ on national and international event calendars.
We aim to produce an event of exceptional quality that will be rich in experience, an event that will engage the senses. Each participating community will present their finest in food, dance, arts, music and film.
We also aim to develop mentoring programs, for local youth, in all facets of the event production process from business and financial management through to production and artistic/creative development. We will use the diverse range of resources available to us, through community networks, to advance the skills of these people with the view to obtaining paid employment.
Proceeds
Proceeds from the Unity Festival will be invested in future Unity Festival events. When the Unity Festival has funds surplus to requirements the proceeds will be donated to the Murwillumbah Community Centre Inc.
Mission Statement
To develop a sustainable tourism attraction of excellent quality that creates training and employment opportunities for the community, particularly our youth.
The Venue
The inaugural event will be held at The Branding Rail, located in the grounds of Murwillumbah’s historic Showground. The Murwillumbah Showground is a superb venue with ample facilities and picturesque surroundings with plenty of scope for future growth. For directions see maps page.
