GREAT NEWS: the efforts of those who endeavoured to ensure the success of the inaugural Tweed Shire Unity Festival held at Murwillumbah Showgrounds during the afternoon and evening of Saturday the 14th November 2009 were rewarded with great success when about 900 to 1000 persons attended the festival.

The rain shower during the late morning did little to dampen the spirits of the dedicated team of hard working volunteers, whom we now take this opportunity to thank whole heartedly.

It was only due to their valiant efforts that Unity Festival 2009 soared to the heights of success and was found to be immensely enjoyable by the crowds that streamed in through the gate in a continual stream from 3.00pm till well after the sun had set, with most attendees staying to enjoy the final act by Max Judo, and well worth the wait they were too.

A big thank you to all who contributed to this amazing event.

Looking forward to Unity Festival 2010 ...

The Murwillumbah Community Centre in partnership with the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre, and Ethical Productions is proud to present the inaugural Unity Festival to be held at the Branding Rail, in the grounds of Murwillumbah's historic Showgrounds on the 14th November 2009 commencing at 3.00 pm DST.

The Unity Festival is an exciting family focused event that will showcase the rich cultural diversity of the Tweed Shire. The Unity Festival will raise cultural awareness and create opportunities for greater cultural interaction. The theme for the festival is Celebrating Diversity. The Unity Festival will feature the music, dance, costumes, food, art and craft and stories of the culturally diverse communities of the Tweed Shire including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Expressions of interest are sought from each community to present the finest of their culture either through song, dance, music, art or cuisine. Elders from each community are invited to tell their story and share the significance, to their culture, of their creative presentation as a 'Living library'.

The Unity Festival will create a 'Global Vilage' where patrons can immerse themselves fully in rich and diverse experiences and have the opportunity to hear the personal stories of lives and traditions very different to our own.

Community and Non Government organisations of the Tweed Shire have been invited to set up information stalls at the event to provide information on the broad range of services available and to gather information on the needs of our culturally diverse neighbours.
